Datuk Shireen is a senior investment professional, managing emerging market investments for over 35 years. She founded her South East Asian responsible asset manager, Corston-Smith in 2004, and has held the support from a UK based GBP300 million Pension Fund. Prior to Corston-Smith, Datuk Shireen was the Chief Executive Officer of AIG Investment Corporation (Malaysia). She was with the AIG Investment Corporation for 12 years.
Over her investment career and as part of her belief in nation building, Datuk Shireen accepted the role as the First Female Chairman of the Stock Exchange of Malaysia and as an Executive Committee member of the Economic Action Council for Malaysia chaired by the Prime Minister. She has served on the Federal Land Authority (as Chair of Risk and Governance), as well as Chair of Investment. She served on the Labuan Offshore Financial Center and as Chair of Risk for a Commercial Bank.
Datuk Shireen has been named on Forbes Asia's 50 Power Businesswomen 2014 and as one of the 25 most Influential Women in Asia Pacific's Asset Management Industry by Asian Investor in 2011. Corston-Smith led a ground-breaking Diversity research project in 2011 from 5,000 data points showing a positive correlation between the number of women on corporate boards and financial indicators, which she presented at the World Bank/IFC General Meetings in Tokyo. APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) referenced this gender research in their papers.
Datuk Shireen's latest Amazon #1 bestseller book, "We are all Stakeholders," was reviewed by US Entrepreneur Magazine as a 'must read for Entrepreneurs looking to break the mold.' Datuk Shireen currently serves as Deputy Chairman of the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), a Distinguished Expert Panel for Universiti Malaya Centre for Leadership & Professional Development (UM LEAD), and is a recipient of the 2024-2025 Hull Fellow of the Pacific Pension and Investment Institute (PPI). She was appointed as a Member of the Mediation Group International (MGI), an independent, not-for-profit association registered and headquartered in Geneva.
Datuk Shireen holds a Master of Business Administration from Loyola Marymount University, United States, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Southern California, United States.
